BASIL & STRAWBERRY PROSECCO COCKTAILS

Tangerine Canteen Basil & Strawberry Cocktails

This is a really simple summer cocktail. Prosecco is my favourite sparkling wine out there when served up with some basil & strawberry, the combination of flavours are delicious. If you like sparkling or subtle flowery cocktails, then this is one for you.

It's pretty easy to make, so there is no real recipe here because we're not measuring out different liquors, we are just adding subtle flavours;

In a glass, muddle together a couple of basil leaves with a couple of strawberries slices & a drizzle of agave (or pinch of sugar). Top with cold Prosecco and serve. Enjoy!

Negroni

This is one of my favourite cocktails at the moment. I tried it for the first time only recently, but it shot straight into my top five of favourites! It's not as summer inspired as perhaps a Margarita or a Mojito, but it's still delicious. Enjoy!

Tangerine Canteen - Vegan Chocolate Milk

I surprise myself with this blog, I really do.

Take this for example; the girl (me) who claims she doesn't really do breakfast, goes ahead and posts three consecutive breakfast posts (here, here and here). The same girl (me again, hi!) once wrote a really long (and equally thrilling) blog post about how she hated kidney beans, then went on to blog this kidney bean burger recipe the following week. And now, that very girl (you get the picture - it's me) is about to post her 4th chocolate based recipe in as many weeks after claiming that she wasn't 'mad keen' on it. And, on top that off, it's breakfast related.

I don't know either. What can I say apart from it's hot out there & i'm British.

Vegan Chocolate & Banana Milk

Ingredients (serves 1)

  • 3 medjool dates, pitted
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 tbsp raw cacao powder (cocoa will do but you'll probably want an extra tbsp)
  • 1 tsp raw honey / maple syrup / agave
  • 1 cup cold un-sweetned almond milk
  • 1 tsp maca root powder (optional)

Method

  1. In a food processor / blender, whizz together the dates & banana into a smooth paste.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients and whizz for about 2 minutes until you have a thick frothy milkshake.

SUPER SIMPLE BREAKFAST SMOOTHIE

When breakfast is this simple & delicious, there is no excuse to skip it really, is there?  Whilst I'm a huge fan of green juices for breakfast, its half term & the kids are at home, and things need to be fun! So, whilst everyone was lolling about in their PJ's watching early morning cartoons, I whizzed this up. Served with some brioche rolls & pain au chocolates, I was a very popular mum! Even if it was for only 10 minutes ;)

Super Simple Breakfast Smoothie

Serves 4-6

  • 500g frozen raspberries
  • 1/2 pint milk
  • 1 tsp agave / honey / maple syrup

Whizz all ingredients in a food processor / blender / smoothie maker; Starting with the raspberries, and adding a little milk at a time (to determine your desired thickness!) before adding your sweetener at the end. Whizz again, and enjoy!

This juice probably has to be one of the easiest to make with its tiny list of ingredients. I was really thirsty when planning this blog post, so I made a jug of this & India had demolished almost half of it before I even finished shooting the pics! It's really simple, sweet and because of the high levels of beta carotene found in the carrots, (that our bodies convert into vitamin A), it's really good for you. So,  go on, grab yourself a glass, some ice, a poncy straw & get stuck in!

*The quantities are for a small jug full, but if you only want a glass full, then 2 carrots would be enough.

THE BEET BLASTER

Did you know the official name for the Beetroot family is 'Goosefoot'? No, me neither and even if I did, I doubt I would have called this a 'Goosefoot Juice' because people need no help in being put off vegetable based juices! So, instead, let me present to you the very lovely Beet Blaster (I have a feeling that these names are going to get ridiculous!)

Beetroots are SO good for you - full to the brim with antioxidants, folic acid & vitamin B. And because they have a relatively high (natural) sugar content, this juice comes up sweet & delicious with just enough kick from the lemon juice and just enough tingle from the ginger.  If you want to add a tsp of wheatgrass powder to this, then it will only enhance the superhero powers and won't alter the flavour at all :)
